Mukonage is a ceremony that throws off the grooms who just got married the previous year from a 5m cliff in Yakushidou temple ground. This event is presently conducted as a way to wish for the couple a happy marriage and strong unity. However, it is also believed that it originally began as a vestige of destructive marriage or a revenge for taking their village girl, and gradually changed its’ form to the present style. Suminuri is to mix ashes of Sainokamiyaki and snow and rub it on each other’s face while screaming “Congratulations”! This event is a small New Year event to pray for perfect health and prosperity of family business.
