Tobeke Historical Residence
Minakami Town
A relocated and restored traditional mountain residence from ancient times that is a listed cultural property
Designated as an Important Cultural Property, this building is one of the few examples anywhere in the country of early Edo period farmhouse architecture. Entering the structure affords a glimpse into the lifestyles of the people who once lived here. Tobe-ke was originally a settlement in Kawaba village, next to Minakami, that farmed the land for generations. Judging by the method of construction, it is believed to have been built in the first half of the 18th century.
