A place to pray for the peace and security of a nation, founded Sakanoue no Tamuramaro 
It is said that in 807 A.D. Sakanoue no Tamuramaro visited this land and for the sake of the peace of the country he founded the temple of Fukoji, which was built about 1200 years ago; it belongs to the Buzan Division of the Shingon Sect of Buddhism. Every year on March 3rd one of Japan's three major strange festivals is held here, the Hadaka Oshiai Festival, or the Naked Man Festival, which is well worth seeing.
